COVID and KSA
Viewpoint: “For he says, ‘In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2 ESV
Over the last year and a half, we have all seen many changes due to the global pandemic. Every country has been affected by COVID-19. We watched as Saudi Arabia closed its borders, closed schools, closed mosques, and even reduced the annual pilgrimage (Hajj) to only those residing inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Since this summer, we have begun to see KSA open back up. After the vaccine became available in KSA, Saudi citizens were allowed to resume international travel in May. In August, vaccinated students were allowed to return to in-person learning at high schools and universities. As of two weeks ago, because of the decline in COVID-19 cases, social distancing and wearing of masks in public places are no longer required. The grand mosque in Mecca has opened back up to full capacity, and it is no longer requiring social distancing. Pilgrims still must wear masks and will be required to verify that they have been vaccinated. Additionally, KSA is now allowing vaccinated tourists to enter the country.
Prayer Points: As KSA has opened back up socially, pray that it will open spiritually as well. Ask that believers inside the country will have more opportunities to share with those around them. Pray that many tourists visiting KSA will be believers and that they will have opportunities to share with Saudis about Jesus Christ.
